Taipei:The government of Taiwan and Belize have strengthened their longstanding partnership with the signing of two major agreements during Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung's visit to the Central American country. Lin's three-day visit included meetings with Governor-General Dame Froyla Tzalam and Prime Minister John Brice±o, accompanied by senior Cabinet officials.
According to Focus Taiwan, the visit included bilateral talks between Lin and Belizean Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca, focusing on enhancing cooperation. The two ministers oversaw the signing of a letter of intent for the Taiwan-Caribbean Academy, a collaboration between the University of Belize and the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund. This initiative aims to promote technical and vocational education, sustainable tourism, and economic cooperation among regional diplomatic allies.
Additionally, an agreement on diplomatic staff training cooperation was signed to bolster the professional development of Belize's foreign service. The Taiwan-Caribbean Academy will be based at the University of Belize, with Taiwanese universities participating in curriculum development.
Lin's delegation, which includes representatives from various sectors such as green energy, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology, aims to further economic cooperation with Taiwan's Central American allies. Following their stay in Belize, Lin and his team are set to visit Guatemala, where they will meet with President Bernardo Ar©valo and attend events celebrating diplomatic ties and Taiwan's National Day.
