Taiwan Donates US$350,000 to Aid Texas Flood Recovery Efforts

Taipei: Taiwan has donated US$350,000 to support recovery efforts in Texas after severe flooding in the state in July left more than 100 people dead, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Friday. In a news statement, MOFA detailed the involvement of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Houston, which formally presented the funds to the OneStar Foundation, a local nonprofit recommended by Texas authorities to coordinate disaster relief, during a ceremony on Thursday.

According to Focus Taiwan, the donation is intended to assist communities that were significantly impacted by the recent floods, enabling them to rebuild and reconstruct so that residents can return to normal life. Central Texas experienced catastrophic flash floods over the Fourth of July weekend, resulting from several days of torrential rains.

The donation was made under the instruction of Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, who conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families shortly after the disaster occurred. Lin also expressed the Taiwanese government’s intention to offer assistance, underlining Taiwan’s commitment to supporting affected communities in the aftermath of the floods.
