Taipei: Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC) announced on Wednesday that it will terminate its policy allowing passengers with reserved-seat tickets to board earlier trains and sit in non-reserved cars, effective November 10. According to Focus Taiwan, the practice was initially introduced to provide flexibility for passengers but has resulted in several hundred people utilizing it daily. This has led to wasted reserved seats and overcrowding in non-reserved cars, negatively impacting the quality of travel. Starting November 10, passengers holding reserved-seat tickets who wish to travel on an earlier train must exchange their tickets in advance. THSRC is urging travelers to board only the train specified on their ticket to avoid these issues. The decision is part of a series of measures announced by THSRC Chairman Shih Che aimed at improving service. Plans include designating certain peak-hour trains as non-reserved services next year. Under current THSRC regulations, reserved tickets are valid only for the specific train and route on the given date, while non-reserved tickets can be used on any train on the designated date.
