Taiwan Lottery Launches New Scratch Cards with Over NT$2 Billion in Prizes

Taipei: Taiwan Lottery announced the introduction of two new scratch cards, with total prize money exceeding NT$2 billion (US$63.60 million).

According to Focus Taiwan, the company launched the first scratch card named "Happy Scratch 5000," priced at NT$500 (US$15.93), offering more than 150,000 prizes of NT$5,000 and above, including two top prizes of NT$3 million. The winning rate for this card is set at 34.73 percent.

Taiwan Lottery highlighted the influence of "chatter prizes," which are prizes worth five to 10 times the ticket price that winners are likely to share with friends and family, as revealed by recent global surveys on lottery consumer behavior. The prize structure of "Happy Scratch 5000" is designed to leverage this behavior to boost ticket sales.

The second scratch card, "Good Luck 88," features a mahjong-themed design incorporating mahjong tiles with a "?" character, whose pronunciation is similar to eight in Mandarin. Sold for NT$200, this card offers 88 top prizes of NT$88,000 and over 240,000 prizes of NT$800, with a winning rate of 31.99 percent. Taiwan Lottery anticipates that the unique design and prize offerings of both scratch cards will appeal to a broad range of consumers.
