Taiwan men’s soccer team beats Thailand to snap 10-game losing streak

Taiwan’s men’s national soccer team snapped a 10-game losing streak stretching back more than three years with a 1-0 international friendly win over Thailand at the Thammasat Stadium in Bangkok Wednesday.

Chen Jui-chieh (???) scored the game’s only goal, breaking the deadlock 71 minutes in with a chip past Thai goalkeeper Kampon Phatomakkaku from inside the box.

The goal came against the run of play, with Taiwan goalkeeper Pan Wen-chieh (???) being kept busy most of the night, including blocking a close-range shot on goal and the subsequent rebound in the 60th minute.

Before Wednesday, Taiwan’s men had not won an international match since defeating Hong Kong 2-0 in a friendly on June 11, 2019.

“For us, this is not only a win — ending this 10-game losing streak marks a new start for the team. I want to thank all the Taiwanese fans who watched the match online or came to the stadium,” captain Wu Chun-ching (???) said at full time.

To celebrate the long-awaited triumph, the Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA) will award the team a bonus of NT$300,000 (US$9,811), said CTFA Chairman Cheng Wen-tsan (???) in a press release.
