Taiwanese Olympic medalist Pan Cheng-tsung (???) finished ninth at the Genesis Invitational golf tournament in the United States on Sunday with a score of 11-under 273 to vault him higher in various PGA Tour rankings.
The 30-year-old Pan, who won bronze in men’s golf at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, shot a 4-under 67 in Sunday’s final round to move into the top 10 after starting the day tied for 18th at seven under par.
Pan had an up and down front nine with three birdies and two bogeys but a hot streak of three birdies between the 10th and 13th holes propelled him up the leaderboard.
Chilean Joaquin Niemann won the tournament with a score of 19-under 265 to collect the first prize of US$2.16 million from a US$12 million purse.
Pan’s strong finish gave him his second top 10 result of the PGA Tour 2021-2022 season in nine starts and moved his ranking in the FedEx Cup standings up to 56th, from 93rd a week earlier.
His other top 10 finish was when he tied for sixth at the season’s opening event, the Fortinet Championship, held Sept. 16-19, 2021, in California.
With his US$351,000 in prize money for the ninth-place finish, Pan also rose from 87th to 47th on the PGA Tour money list with total winnings so far this season of US$789,718.
