Yilan:A northbound Puyuma Express train operated by Taiwan Railway Corp. (TR) failed to stop at Jiaoxi Station on Wednesday, prompting the train to reverse back to the station to allow passengers to board and disembark.
According to Focus Taiwan, the incident involved the No. 219 Puyuma Express traveling from Hualien to Shulin, which missed its scheduled stop at 1:33 p.m. Employees at Jiaoxi Station sent out an emergency alert following the incident.
The train's driver was instructed by a TR dispatcher to reverse the train back to Jiaoxi Station, allowing affected passengers to continue their journey. Taiwan Railway expressed its "sincere apologies" for the disruption, which impacted 64 travelers and resulted in a 21-minute delay.
A post on social media depicted the train "quickly reversing" after bypassing the stop, with many passengers and people on the platform laughing at the unexpected turn of events. The post humorously mentioned a passenger joking about being sent back to Hualien.
Taiwan Railway has not disclosed the reason for the driver's oversight nor whether any disciplinary measures will be taken.
