Taipei: Taiwan Railway Corp. (TR) will introduce mobile payment options for fare adjustments made onboard trains starting Thursday, allowing passengers to pay via digital wallets in addition to cash, the railway operator announced on Tuesday.
According to Focus Taiwan, the decision comes in response to complaints from passengers who experienced inconvenience when they were required to pay additional fares in cash after purchasing tickets with credit cards. The issue was highlighted last year by a passenger who faced a similar situation while traveling on a Tze-Chiang Limited Express train.
Since March 2, Taiwan Railway stations have been accepting credit cards and mobile payments for fare adjustments, alongside traditional cash transactions. With the new system launching Thursday, passengers will have the option to use various mobile payment services for onboard fare adjustments. These services include JKO Pay, Easy Wallet, PXPay Plus, Pi Wallet, PX Pay, iPASS MONEY, icash Pay, Taiwan Pay, and LINE Pay Money.
