Taiwan reports 22,634 new COVID-19 cases, 59 deaths

Taiwan reported 22,634 new COVID-19 infections Monday, including 41 imported cases, and 59 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The deaths reported Monday involved individuals who ranged in age from their 40s to their 90s. All but four had underlying health issues, while 31 were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.

The 22,634 cases were 14.2 percent lower than one week earlier, the CECC said. Case numbers are often compared on a week-by-week basis because they tend to be lower on weekends and Mondays than on other days of the week.

Meanwhile, the CECC also reported 44 new cases classified as severe and 127 as moderate.
