Chengdu: Taiwan celebrated a triumphant day at the 2025 World Games on Tuesday, securing bronze medals in both the men’s wushu sanda and korfball competitions held in Chengdu, China.
According to Focus Taiwan, Zhang Huan-yi, Taiwan’s sole sanda athlete, clinched the bronze after defeating Ruslan Piraliyev of Azerbaijan with a 2-0 victory in the men’s 70-kilogram third-place match. This achievement adds to Zhang’s growing list of accolades, following his bronze at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, and a silver medal at the world championships that same year.
In the korfball competition, Taiwan, competing under the name Chinese Taipei, claimed another bronze medal by overcoming the Czech Republic. The game witnessed a tight first quarter with a 6-6 tie and a narrow 8-9 deficit at halftime. However, Taiwan’s athletes, Lin Ya-wen, Cho Ya-hui, and Wu Pei-yun, intensified their efforts in the third quarter, scoring nine points while restricting the Czech team to five.
In the final quarter, Taiwan’s defense proved pivotal, conceding only one late point to the Czech Republic. Chang Shu-chi and Lin then scored consecutively, sealing a 19-15 victory and securing the bronze medal for Taiwan in the korfball competition.
