Taipei: As Typhoon Podul approached Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a land warning for parts of southern Taiwan, urging residents to take precautions.
According to Focus Taiwan, the typhoon has led to various suspensions in ferry services, domestic and international flights, and closures of recreational parks and scenic spots across the region.
The Maritime Port Bureau (MPB) announced the cancellation of eight ferry journeys on three routes, including Fugang-Green Island, Nangan-Langqi (Fujian), and Beigan-Huangqi (Fuzhou) on Tuesday. Additional service suspensions are planned for Wednesday on multiple routes, such as Keelung-Matsu, Kinmen-Wutong Ferry Terminal (Xiamen), and others. The Kinmen County Harbor Bureau also suspended services between Kinmen and China’s Quanzhou on Tuesday afternoon, with further cancellations scheduled for Wednesday.
Domestic flights have been impacted as well, with Mandarin Airlines, Uni Air, and Daily Air Corp. canceling all flights on Wednesday. Internationally, China Airlines, Eva Air, and Tigerair Taiwan have announced cancellations or rescheduling of various flights. Starlux Airlines has not yet announced any adjustments.
Recreational parks are also affected, with the Taichung branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency closing several national forest recreation areas and hiking trails. Yushan National Park and Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area have been closed, with reopening dates to be determined based on weather conditions and damage assessments.
Scenic spots like Guishan Island are closed off to visitors, and several events, including the Taipei Summer Festival, Yilan International Children’s Folklore and Folkgame Festival, and Taiwan International Balloon Festival, have been canceled to ensure public safety amid the typhoon threat.
