Taipei: Taiwan's mango exports are projected to rise significantly, with expectations to increase by 2.5 to 2.6 times year-on-year by 2026, as the government plans to expand sales to all 27 European Union member states, Agriculture Minister Chen Junne-jih announced.
According to Focus Taiwan, Ministry of Agriculture data revealed that Taiwan exported 325 metric tons of fresh mangoes between January and May 2026, compared to 836 metric tons for the entirety of 2025. These developments follow Taiwanese mangoes entering the French market and a shipment arriving in London earlier this month.
Speaking at Food Taipei 2026, Chen emphasized the importance of building long-term, stable, and reliable agricultural trade partnerships rather than focusing solely on competitive pricing. He identified France as a critical distribution hub, noting that Taiwanese exporters have forged lasting relationships with local partners whose networks extend into broader European markets.
Chen highlighted the potential for Taiwan's mangoes to reach all 27 EU countries through strategic distribution channels and targeted marketing strategies. He also mentioned strong export performance in South Korea, expressing hopes that other premium Taiwanese fruits could follow similar paths into global markets.
The remarks were made during an interview at the opening of Food Taipei 2026. The exhibition, held from June 24-27 at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 and Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Halls 1 and 2, has attracted 1,750 companies from 33 countries, with 4,700 booths, marking the largest edition of the event since the COVID-19 pandemic.
James Huang, chairman of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, the event's organizer, noted that 21 countries have established national pavilions. Additionally, the Taiwan Pavilion has gathered food companies nationwide to showcase the strengths of Taiwan's food industry.
At the opening ceremony, Presidential Office Deputy Secretary-General Mark Ho stated that Taiwan's food industry comprises over 8,000 businesses, supports approximately 240,000 jobs, and generates output valued at more than NT$1 trillion (US$31.5 billion), underscoring its significance as a key pillar of the economy.
