Taiwan welcomes first German parliamentarian delegation in 2023

A group of Free Democratic Party parliamentarians from Germany, led by the chair of the Bundestag Defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann and the party’s deputy chair, Johannes Vogel, arrived in Taiwan on Monday, making them the first German delegation to travel to Taiwan this year.

During their trip from Jan. 9-12, they will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (???) and other senior government officials, including Premier Su Tseng-chang (???) and National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo (???), and will be treated to meals by Legislative Speaker You Si-kun (???) and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (???), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said in a press release.

They will also meet with officials from the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the Mainland Affairs Council and Taiwanese think tanks.

The delegates are also scheduled to visit the Hsinchu Science Park and the National Human Rights Museum. Some delegation members serve on the Bundestag Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid, MOFA said.

This is the first German delegation to travel to Taiwan this year and the third from German Bundestag over the past three months since October 2022, according to MOFA.
