Taiwanese-Latvian Pair Advances to Wimbledon Women’s Doubles Final

London: Taiwanese tennis veteran Hsieh Su-wei and her doubles partner, Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, advanced to the Wimbledon women's doubles final on Friday. The fourth-seeded duo secured their place in the final by defeating the top seeds, Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic and Taylor Townsend of the United States, in two straight sets during the semifinals. According to Focus Taiwan, Hsieh and Ostapenko, despite losing their serve in the opening game, quickly capitalized on their opponents' unforced errors to claim the first set 7-5. Maintaining their momentum into the second set, the Taiwanese-Latvian duo broke their opponents' serve early and maintained their lead to win the match 6-4. The pair will face eighth-seeded Veronika Kudermetova of Russia and Elise Mertens of Belgium in the final. Hsieh, aged 39, will be competing for her fifth Wimbledon women's doubles title and her 10th Grand Slam trophy. She previously partnered with Mertens to clinch the women's doubles championship at the 2024 Austr alian Open.
