Jakarta: Taipei Municipal Chien Kuo High School's marching band (CKMB) secured first place at the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB) World Championships held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Blending music with choreographed dance and flag work, the 65-member ensemble managed to impress the judges and capture this year's championship title.

According to Focus Taiwan, the group consisted of 51 boys and 14 girls from 20 schools, primarily high schools and universities in northern Taiwan, along with one junior-high student from Taichung. The parents' support group highlighted that the performance incorporated Latin, jazz, and tango elements, creating a show that stood out for its variety and energy.

President Lai Ching-te extended his congratulations to the students, stating that their victory exemplifies the younger generation's potential to excel on an international platform. The WAMSB championships, recognized as the premier global competition for marching bands, are hosted annually by different member organizations.

The recent three-day event, conducted from August 8-10 at the Jakarta International Velodrome, saw participation from 36 teams representing countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, and Poland.
