Seoul: The Taipei Mission in Korea has provided a list of recommended lawyers to the family of two Taiwanese nationals who were detained on suspicion of illegally filming U.S. military aircraft and facilities in South Korea, the office announced on Monday. The Taiwanese representative office in Korea has also sought assistance from the South Korean police to ensure they are informed about any follow-up developments regarding the case.
According to Focus Taiwan, the representative office’s actions were prompted by requests from the families of the detained individuals for legal assistance. The Pyeongtaek Police Station had placed the two suspects, one in his 40s and the other in his 60s, under emergency detention on Sunday. They are suspected of violating the Protection of Military Bases and Installations Act, as stated by the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency.
The two individuals are accused of illegally photographing U.S. military facilities and equipment during an air show at the Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, which is located about 60 kilometers south of Seoul. The incident allegedly took place on Saturday, during the air show, according to the police agency.
