Silicon Valley:Fourteen Taiwanese tech companies, in collaboration with the National Development Council (NDC), conducted a talent recruitment campaign at the annual Taiwan Tech Summit in Silicon Valley over the weekend. The event, known as Taiwan Career Day, offered over 1,000 job openings in Taiwan and drew 3,000 visitors. According to Focus Taiwan, this recruitment initiative is part of an ongoing effort to attract global talent to Taiwan's burgeoning tech industries, such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors. The NDC emphasized the importance of holding the event in Silicon Valley due to its status as a hub for tech talent. NDC head Yeh Chun-hsien highlighted that the initiative aims to connect international tech professionals with Taiwanese companies, offering opportunities for career development in Taiwan. The event allows skilled workers to learn about and explore job prospects directly. Prominent companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), Delta Electronics Inc., Taiwa n Mobile Co., and Micron Taiwan participated in the event. Other notable firms included Wistron Corp., MediaTek Inc., and Applied Materials Taiwan. These companies sought expertise in fields like semiconductors, ICT, software, and AI development. Several research institutions and universities, including Academia Sinica and the Industrial Technology Research Institute, also participated, offering interviews for teaching and research positions. Government bodies like the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Affairs set up booths to further promote Taiwan's recruitment efforts. During the event, Michel Foley, a senior software engineer at Salesforce, was awarded Taiwan's Employment Gold Card. This program, launched by the NDC in 2018, aims to attract skilled professionals in multiple fields by offering a combined work permit and residency benefits, including employment rights for spouses and access to the national health insurance system.
