Gandhinagar: Taiwanese weightlifter Chen Wen-huei secured three silver medals and set two national records in the women's 69-kilogram division at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships held in Gandhinagar, India on Friday night.
According to Focus Taiwan, Chen achieved silver with lifts of 104 kg in the snatch, 135 kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 239 kg across the two lifts. In all three categories, she was bested only by North Korea's Song Kuk-hyang. Notably, Chen's performance in the clean and jerk, as well as her combined total, established new national records for Taiwan in this weight class.
Chen successfully lifted her silver-medal-winning weights on her second attempts but was unable to complete her final attempts of 109 kg in the snatch and 138 kg in the clean and jerk after securing the silver medals. Her coach, Huang Da-te, noted that Chen had shown promising form prior to the competition, even managing a 103 kg snatch during her warm-up.
Huang indicated that if Chen had succeeded in her initial snatch attempt of 103 kg, she would likely have aimed for 110 kg on her final try. He remarked that her clean and jerk performance was consistent with her training regimen and commended her overall showing at the championships. Looking ahead, Huang emphasized that the team plans to focus specifically on improving Chen's snatch technique in preparation for the 20th Asian Games slated to open in mid-September in Japan.
