Taipei:Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration (CGA) has stated that Beijing has no jurisdiction over the waters surrounding Taiwan, following claims by China's coast guard of conducting "routine law enforcement patrols" in the region.

According to Focus Taiwan, China's coast guard announced that a patrol flotilla, led by the vessel "Hushi," had carried out patrols in waters off eastern Taiwan and had increased control over the area. In response, Taiwan's CGA dismissed this claim, asserting that it was an attempt by China to harass Taiwan and falsely assert jurisdiction over the maritime region.

Taiwan's CGA emphasized its exclusive sovereign rights over its eastern exclusive economic zone (EEZ), citing international law principles linking maritime jurisdiction to land sovereignty. The agency reported deploying vessels, including the Ji An, to monitor the movements of Chinese coast guard ships, specifically the Hushi (CCG 1308) and the Meishan (CCG 2303), during their operations.

Furthermore, the CGA accused Beijing of spreading false narratives by referring to Taiwan as "China's Taiwan Island" and mischaracterizing its activities as legitimate law enforcement. The agency highlighted China's attempts to harass vessels via radio communications as part of this effort.

At a security forum in Taipei, Pai Pang-ting of the Ocean Affairs Council noted that while the People's Liberation Army provides visible military deterrence, Beijing employs coast guard, research, and fishing vessels to challenge Taiwan's maritime jurisdiction. Pai cautioned that China's portrayal of repeated incursions as routine might gradually undermine Taiwan's ability to exercise control over its maritime areas.
