Taiwan’s Lin and Kao Fall to Chinese Duo in Singapore Smash Table Tennis Final

Taipei: Taiwan's Lin Yun-ju and Kao Cheng-jui were defeated by their Chinese counterparts Lin Shidong and Wang Chuqin in the men's doubles final at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Singapore Smash, losing 3-0 on Saturday.

According to Focus Taiwan, Lin and Kao received their silver medals after the match, which saw them struggle against the third-seeded Chinese duo. The final scores were 2-11, 4-11, and 11-13. The Taiwan pair found themselves trailing early on as the Chinese players dominated the first two games.

In the third game, Lin and Kao managed to rally and briefly held a 10-8 lead. However, they could not capitalize on two game points, allowing Lin and Wang to maintain their composure and clinch the victory. Despite the loss, the Taiwanese duo showed potential as a new partnership, aiming for future competitions such as the 2026 Asian Games.

Throughout the tournament, Lin and Kao demonstrated strong teamwork. They defeated the fifth-seeded Singaporean pair 3-0 in the round of 16, followed by a 3-1 victory over the second-seeded Japanese team in the quarterfinals. They advanced to the final after overcoming the fourth-seeded French pair of Florian Bourrassaud and Esteban Dorr.

The Chinese pair, Lin Shidong and Wang Chuqin, both ranked highly in men's singles, also partnered for the first time at this event. Their synergy proved effective, as evidenced by their triumph in the final. Additionally, Lin Yun-ju faced Lin Shidong in the men's singles quarterfinals on Friday, where the Chinese player prevailed 4-1.

The WTT Singapore Smash, with a prize pool of US$1.5 million, is taking place at the Singapore Sports Hub and concludes on Sunday.
