Taipei: Taiwanese paddler and Olympian Lin Yun-ju's table tennis world ranking has dropped from 12th to 14th in the men's singles, marking his lowest position since July 2019, as announced by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) on Tuesday. The ITTF calculates the world rankings weekly, based on the sum of the best eight results in events played over the preceding 12 months. According to Focus Taiwan, Lin was penalized with zero points for two events due to his absence from several World Table Tennis (WTT) events. Additionally, the 1,000 points he had earned from winning the WTT Champions games in Frankfurt in 2023 were removed from his accumulated ranking points this week as they fell outside the one-year period. Lin has also not progressed beyond the quarterfinals in any men's singles competition since the Paris Olympics. The 23-year-old paddler is currently defending his title at the 2024 WTT Champions Games in Frankfurt and has the opportunity to improve his rankings. Lin recently won his ro und of 32 match against French table tennis player Alexis Lebrun on Monday (German time). Other Taiwanese players in the men's singles global top 50 include Kao Cheng-jui, who remains at 24th; Chuang Chih-yuan, who has risen one place to 42nd; and Feng Yi-hsin, who has dropped one spot to 50th. In the women's singles, Cheng I-ching rose one place to 8th, while Huang Yi-hua fell one position to 35th.
