Taiwan’s Tang Chih-chun Clinches Gold in Men’s Individual Recurve at World University Games

Taipei: Taiwanese archer Tang Chih-chun secured a gold medal in the men’s individual recurve event at the 2025 World University Games held in Germany. The 24-year-old athlete triumphed over China’s Qin Wangyu with a narrow 6-5 victory, clinching the win by scoring 10-8 in a decisive shoot-off after the match was tied at 5-5.

According to Focus Taiwan, this victory marks a significant achievement for Tang, a two-time Olympian, as it ends a 20-year title drought for Taiwan in the men’s individual recurve category at the Universiade. The last gold medal for Taiwan in this event was claimed by Kuo Chen-wei in Izmir, Turkey, back in 2005.

Tang’s accomplishment also contributes to Taiwan’s overall performance at the ongoing Universiade, bringing the nation’s gold medal tally to three. The games are taking place in the Rhine-Ruhr region and are set to conclude on Sunday. As of the latest updates, Taiwanese athletes have accumulated a total of three golds, 10 silvers, and seven bronzes, positioning them 11th on the overall medal table.
