Amman: Taiwan’s U16 women’s volleyball team concluded their remarkable run at the Asian Women’s U16 Volleyball Championship in Jordan with a silver medal after a hard-fought match against South Korea. Despite their valiant efforts, the team narrowly missed out on the championship title.
According to Focus Taiwan, Taiwan’s team displayed exceptional performance by defeating China in the semifinals, marking their best achievement in the tournament’s history. The championship match commenced with a closely contested first set, which ended 28-26 in favor of Chinese Taipei. However, they could not maintain the momentum and lost the subsequent two sets with scores of 21-25 and 11-25.
In a resilient comeback during the third set, Taiwan leveled the match with a 25-19 victory, only to face a narrow defeat in the final set, losing 13-15. Coach Hou Ya-hui expressed immense pride in her team for their determination and effort in the face of physical challenges posed by the height advantage of their opponents.
Hou gathered the team after the match, offering words of encouragement and emphasizing their commendable performance despite the outcome. She told them, “There is nothing to cry about,” urging them to aim for success in the upcoming U17 games.
Key player Chen Ting-yi, only 15 years old, played a crucial role in the team’s victories. Hou noted Chen’s growth in stability and confidence throughout the tournament, highlighting her potential for future competitions.
