Taiwan’s Women’s Recurve Team Clinches Silver at World University Games

Taipei: Taiwan's women's recurve archery team secured a silver medal at the 2025 FISU World University Games held in Germany, following a 2-6 defeat to Japan in the final match.

According to Focus Taiwan, after receiving a bye in the first round, the team demonstrated remarkable skill by overcoming Italy with a narrow 5-4 victory, followed by a 5-1 triumph over India, and a 5-3 win against China to earn their place in the gold medal match. Taiwan initially led 2-0 after winning the first set 56-55, thanks in part to Feng Yu-chu's precise 10-point shot. However, Japan leveled the score by taking the second set 54-56.

The competition intensified as weather conditions deteriorated, with wind and rain affecting the third set. Although Kuo Tzu-ying started with a promising 10-point shot, a subsequent score of seven contributed to a 52-58 loss in the set. Taiwan struggled in the fourth set, opening with two eights and a seven, which gave Japan an advantage that culminated in a 52-56 set victory, clinching the match.

On the same day, Taiwan's men's recurve archery team faced a formidable Turkish team and finished fourth after a 0-6 loss. Notably, the last time Taiwan's women's recurve team claimed gold at the Universiade was in 2015 in Gwangju, South Korea, an achievement partially credited to Lin Shih-chia, who returned this year in the role of coach.
