Taoyuan: A fire at a factory in Taoyuan’s Luzhu District sent thick smoke drifting over Taoyuan International Airport on Sunday morning but did not disrupt flight operations, according to local authorities. The Taoyuan International Airport Corp. confirmed that despite the smoke being visible from inside the terminal, all takeoffs and landings continued as scheduled, reassuring passengers that there was no cause for concern.
According to Focus Taiwan, the Taoyuan Fire Department received a report of a blaze in a single-story industrial structure at 9:13 a.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of fire trucks and ambulances. The site reportedly housed approximately 100 metric tons of palm oil and other vegetable oils. Officials confirmed that no individuals were trapped or injured, but the cause of the fire and the extent of the property damage remain under investigation.
The Taoyuan Department of Environmental Protection warned on Facebook that areas downwind might experience smoke odors. They advised residents to stay indoors, keep doors and windows closed, and wear masks if going outside is necessary. The department emphasized additional precautions for vulnerable individuals to mitigate health risks, identifying potentially affected areas as Puxin, Zhuwei, and Kuolin wards in Dayuan District, as well as Kengkou Ward in Luzhu District.
