Taoyuan: Schools and offices in Taoyuan, Yilan, Hualien, and Penghu will close on Tuesday due to the effects of Typhoon Fung-Wong, according to the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration (DGPA).
According to Focus Taiwan, the directorate-general, which oversees government workers, announced the school and work suspensions as the typhoon approached Taiwan on Monday evening. Many private companies in Taiwan also adhere to the closures, which are determined by local governments.
In New Taipei, schools and workplaces in Ruifang, Shiding, Pinglin, Pingxi, Shuangxi, Gongliao, and Wulai townships will also be closed, the DGPA stated. As of 8 p.m. Monday, Fung-Wong was positioned about 470 kilometers south-southwest of Eluanbi, Taiwan’s southernmost tip.
The storm was advancing north at 13 kph, with maximum sustained winds of up to 137 kph and gusts reaching 173 kph. According to the Central Weather Administration, the typhoon is anticipated to bring increasingly heavy rain to northern and eastern Taiwan from Monday night into Tuesday.
