Kaohsiung:Three ex-military personnel have been indicted by the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office's Kaohsiung Branch for allegedly collecting military secrets for China since 2020.
According to Focus Taiwan, the individuals, identified by their surnames Chen, Lu, and Mao, face charges under the National Security Act, Anti-Corruption Act, and Classified National Security Information Protection Act, as well as the Criminal Code of the Armed Forces. Chen, a retired Air Force member, reportedly began collaborating with Chinese intelligence officials in late 2020, receiving instructions and funding from an intelligence agency linked to the Communist Party of China.
Prosecutors allege that Chen acquired confidential military data, including tank specifications and details of the Han Kuang military exercises, from Lu, who was actively serving in the Army at the time. In 2024, Chen and Mao, another retired military member, allegedly traveled to Zhuhai, China. There, Chen reportedly met with Chinese intelligence officials and aimed to form an organization for China, persuading Mao to gather confidential information from current military personnel.
The case was brought to the attention of the prosecutors in June 2026 by the Kaohsiung Military Police, Tainan Military Police, Pingtung County Police Bureau's Criminal Investigation Corps, and the Ministry of National Defense's Political Warfare Bureau. The investigation, which involved collecting evidence, conducting digital forensics, and reviewing financial records, concluded with the indictment of the three individuals.
