Tropical Storm Jangmi to Disrupt Flights from Taiwan to Japan

Taipei: Four Taiwanese airlines have either canceled or adjusted the schedules of their flights to Japan on Tuesday as Tropical Storm Jangmi approaches the country.

According to Focus Taiwan, data released by Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA) at 2 p.m. Monday indicated that the eye of Jangmi was located approximately 90 kilometers south-southwest of Naha, Japan, which is about 580 kilometers east of Taipei. The storm is moving north-northeast and gradually turning northeast at a speed of 26 to 38 km per hour, and it is expected to hit Japan.

Tigerair Taiwan announced Monday that its flights IT230/IT231 between Taoyuan and Okinawa's Naha Airport, as well as flights IT288/IT289 between Kaohsiung and Naha on Tuesday, will be delayed due to flight safety considerations. The budget airline advised passengers to check the "Flight Status" section on its website for the latest updates.

Meanwhile, EVA Airways stated that its early morning BR112 and BR113 flights between Taoyuan and Okinawa on Tuesday have been canceled. However, the airline noted that the aircraft for its late afternoon flights BR186 and BR185 will use larger Boeing 777-300ER to accommodate affected passengers. EVA Air also reminded passengers to check its flight status website before heading to the airport due to uncertainties surrounding the storm.

China Airlines, Taiwan's largest carrier, mentioned that its CI150 flight from Taoyuan to Nagoya on Tuesday evening has been canceled. Additionally, flights CI172/CI173 between Taoyuan and Osaka and CI176/CI177 between Kaohsiung and Osaka will depart earlier than scheduled on Tuesday. Flights CI120/CI121 between Taoyuan and Okinawa, CI178/CI179 between Taoyuan and Takamatsu, and CI118/CI119 between Taoyuan and Kagoshima will experience delays. Furthermore, Wednesday's CI151 flight from Nagoya to Taoyuan has been canceled, and flights CI154/CI155 between Taoyuan and Nagoya will operate with larger aircraft than usual. China Airlines said it will continue to update flight schedules based on changes in the storm's path and advised passengers to check its website, mobile app, or SMS notification service for the latest information.

Taiwan's newest carrier, Starlux Airlines, previously announced that flights JX870 (Taipei-Okinawa), JX871 (Okinawa-Taipei), JX302 (Taichung-Okinawa), and JX303 (Okinawa-Taichung) on Tuesday will be delayed.
