Tropical Storm Muifa’s impact on Taiwan uncertain: CWB

Tropical Storm Muifa was gradually picking up strength Friday morning and could develop into a typhoon, but how much it would affect Taiwan remained to be seen, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.

At 2 a.m. Friday, Muifa was 1,160 kilometers southeast of Taiwan’s southernmost tip, Eluanbi, and moving in a northwesterly direction, CWB data showed.

It could continue gaining strength before it veers north around the Ryukyu Islands, after which its path becomes difficult to predict, the CWB said.

That makes it hard to forecast its impact on Taiwan, the CWB said, adding that it was closely monitoring the tropical storm’s path.
