Taoyuan: Taipei: Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim returned to Taiwan on Monday after participating in the second Ventotene European Conference for Freedom and Democracy in Italy. During her visit, she engaged in discussions on key issues such as freedom, democracy, and peace, underscoring Taiwan's commitment to these values. According to Focus Taiwan, upon her arrival at Taoyuan International Airport, Hsiao spoke via livestream about the significance of her visit to Ventotene, an island with historical importance. She highlighted the universal language of freedom and the shared aspiration for peace, reaffirming Taiwan's resolve to continue collaborating with the global community despite challenges. Hsiao attended the conference as a guest of honor on Friday, joined by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung. The details of her participation were kept confidential until her arrival in Italy to avoid potential interference from Beijing. This trip marks Hsiao's second official visit to Europe since assuming office in May 2024. Her previous visit to Brussels in November 2025 included addressing a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, illustrating her ongoing efforts to strengthen Taiwan's international presence and alliances.
