Winning receipt for NT$2 million lottery prize was from Penghu hotel

Taipei-One of the receipts that bore the winning number for the NT$2 million (US$67,762) grand prize in the latest invoice lottery was issued by a five-star hotel in the offshore county of Penghu.

It is the first time since the Four Points by Sheraton Penghu hotel opened in 2015 that one of its receipts has won such a big prize in the government’s uniform invoice lottery, which is drawn every other month, according to the hotel’s vice chairman Chang Hsiang-hung (???).

The receipt, bearing the number 99194290, was issued at one of the stores in the hotel, Chang told CNA. The lucky guest had stayed at the hotel in March and spent NT$275 to buy three items at a souvenir shop on the first floor of the building, he said.

According to Chang, it is rare for a winning receipt for such a big prize to be issued in the offshore Penghu County.

In the March-April draw, there were 13 winning receipts that had the number 99194290 for the NT$2 million grand prize, including one issued for handling fees of NT$12 at a FamilyMart convenience store in Changhua County, according to the Ministry of Finance (MOF), which manages the lottery.

The top prize in the lottery was for NT$10 million, and 19 receipts bore the winning number in the latest draw, the MOF said.

The uniform invoice lottery is run by the government to encourage consumers to obtain receipts for their purchases and thus prevent tax evasion by businesses.
