Taipei: A woman is in police custody after she allegedly randomly stabbed a female passenger on a train platform at the Taipei Metro’s Shipai Station, causing non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said on Tuesday. The Taipei Police Department reported receiving a call about the incident at 5:50 p.m., prompting them to dispatch officers to the scene.
According to Focus Taiwan, upon arriving, officers found the victim, a 42-year-old woman surnamed Chen, fully conscious despite having sustained stab wounds on her back and shoulder. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The assailant, a 40-year-old woman surnamed Lin, allegedly attacked Chen while she was seated on the train platform. Lin was quickly restrained by a station security guard and members of the public before being handed over to the police.
Police sources indicated that Lin and Chen were strangers, and Lin’s unclear mental state following the attack made it challenging to determine a motive. The weapon used was identified as a small paring knife, commonly used for cutting fruit, featuring a metal blade and a green plastic handle.
After being questioned, Lin is expected to be handed over to prosecutors on suspicion of causing bodily harm under the Criminal Code, police sources stated.
