Yani Tseng Proud to Make Cut at Women’s British Open Golf

Newport: Taiwanese veteran golfer Yani Tseng expressed her pride in making the cut at the Women’s British Open in Wales, marking her first advancement at a major LPGA tour in seven years. “I’m proud of myself because I never gave up,” Tseng told reporters after completing the second round.

According to Focus Taiwan, Tseng, a two-time champion at the British major, shot an even-par 72 in the first round. During the second round on Friday, she recorded four birdies and five bogeys, finishing with a 1-over 73, tying in 35th position alongside 17 other players. This achievement marks her first cut at an LPGA event since the 2018 Swinging Skirts Taiwan Championship.

Tseng expressed her excitement about progressing this far and her intent to enjoy the remainder of the tournament. She is uncertain of the outcome but is determined to perform her best. “After all, it’s been a while since I’ve played into the weekend. I hope to play more aggressively and do my best,” she shared.

The Women’s British Open is a 72-hole stroke play tournament, starting with 144 players. The lowest 65 and ties after 36 holes advance to the weekend. Tseng, having faced injuries and mental challenges over the years, acknowledged the effort it took to return to this level.

She humorously described her relationship with golf as a love-hate one but affirmed her continued enjoyment of the sport. “I’m still passionate about golf. I want to see the best version of myself and return with good performances,” she stated.

Additionally, Taiwanese golfer Hsu Wei-ling is also competing in the tournament, currently tied for 19th after two rounds.
