President Yoon Suk Yeol directed relevant ministries to craft preventive measures to minimize damage from heavy rainfall during his visit to the United States on Tuesday, his office said. Yoon issued an emergency order during his stay in Hawaii after receiving briefings on damage caused by heavy downpours in South Korea, Kim Soo-kyung, the presidential spokesperson, said in a written briefing. Yoon instructed relevant ministries to mobilize all available personnel and equipment to rescue people and prevent damage by heavy rains, Kim said. He also called for measures to evacuate residents in areas vulnerable to landslides and restrict access to areas prone to flooding in advance. Heavy rainfall pounded in the southern region earlier this week, and another round of monsoon rains will hit most regions of the country till late Wednesday, according to the state weather agency.
