Ang Lee Retrospective to Open in New York on Feb. 14

New York: A full retrospective of Taiwanese director Ang Lee's movies will kick off on Feb. 14 at the Asia Society Museum in New York, with Lee scheduled to attend post-screening Q and As on four dates. "Water and Oil: The Movies of Ang Lee" is hosted by the Asia Society with support from the Taipei Cultural Center in New York. It will screen 14 movies spanning Lee's career, from the critically acclaimed "Father Knows Best" trilogy and the global wuxia sensation "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" to his Hollywood hits such as "Life of Pi" and "Brokeback Mountain."

According to Focus Taiwan, Lee will appear at post-screening Q and As to discuss "Brokeback Mountain," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Life of Pi," and "Lust, Caution" on Feb. 14, Feb. 15, and Feb. 21, and Feb. 22, respectively. Lee's long-time collaborator, film editor Tim Squyres, will claim the spotlight at the Q and A session following the screening of "Eat Drink Man Woman" on Feb. 23.

"This complete retrospective of Lee's feature films honors the diversity of his oeuvre while highlighting a philosophical throughline that resists polarization," the Taipei Cultural Center in New York said in a recent statement. Ang Lee was born in Taiwan in 1954 and immigrated to the United States aged 23. He studied film at New York University and went on to become the first person of color to win an Academy Award for Best Director with "Brokeback Mountain" in 2006, winning again for "Life of Pi" in 2013, according to the statement.

Lee's latest accolade was the Directors Guild of America's Lifetime Achievement Award, which he received at a ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on Feb. 8.
