Houston: The Houston Astros have made a strategic move by recalling Taiwanese right-hander Teng Kai-wei from Triple-A, aiming to reinforce their bullpen just in time for the series opener against the Athletics.
According to Focus Taiwan, the Astros have also decided to option left-hander Bryan King back to Triple-A as part of their roster adjustments. This marks Teng's return to the major league roster after being optioned on July 26. Teng, a 27-year-old native of Taichung, has participated in 25 MLB games this season, including 10 starts. His record stands at 5-6, with a 4.35 ERA and 67 strikeouts over 68.1 innings, complemented by a 1.35 WHIP.
Teng's journey this season began as a reliever before he was transitioned into Houston's starting rotation. However, his progress was interrupted by a sprained right knee, which landed him on the 15-day injured list. After his activation on July 17, Teng made two relief appearances, conceding two runs over 4.1 innings, before being sent back to Triple-A.
During his stint in Triple-A in August, Teng made five relief appearances, managing a 3.12 ERA, which likely influenced the Astros' decision to recall him as they prepare for the crucial games ahead.
