Cloudy to sunny skies expected for most of Taiwan

Taipei, (CNA) With a weather front, which brought rain to Taiwan in the past couple of days, weakening, cloudy to sunny skies are forecast for most of the country on Friday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The CWB said daytime temperatures are expected to rise by about one degree Celsius from Thursday to 34 degrees in western Taiwan and 32 degrees in the east as the weather conditions turn stable.

However, relatively thin cloud cover in Taitung County in southeastern Taiwan is expected to send the mercury higher there, prompting the CWB to issue an orange heat alert for that area, while a yellow heat advisory has become effective in Taipei City in the north and Nantou County in central Taiwan.

The CWB said the heat alerts will remain into late afternoon on Friday.

According to the CWB’s three-level heat advisory system, an orange warning points to temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius for three days in a row, and a yellow alert refers to a one-day temperature high of 36 degrees.

As temperatures are expected to rise, the CWB urged people taking part in outdoor activities to stay hydrated and to take precautionary measures to avoid sunburn from high levels of ultraviolet rays.

Despite the stable weather, sporadic showers are possible in the afternoon with heavier precipitation expected in the greater Taipei areas and mountainous regions around the country.

Brief showers are also likely in outlying Kinmen and Matsu islands during the day, the CWB said.
