CORONAVIRUS/All contacts of COVID-positive migrant fisherman test negative

All the contacts of an Indonesian fisherman who tested positive for COVID-19 after completing quarantine and self-health management have so far tested negative, according to Kaohsiung City and Penghu County governments.

The migrant fisherman, who received two doses of the Moderna vaccine more than 14 days ago, arrived in Taiwan on Nov. 23 at Taiwan Taoyuan International airport. His polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on the first and last day of quarantine were both negative, and he showed no symptoms.

The man was sent to Kaohsiung by his labor brokerage on Dec. 15 and received another PCR test after completing self-health management.

However, he flew to Penghu on Dec. 16 before the test result came back and was confirmed positive later the same day, with a cycle threshold (CT) value of 37.06.

Kaohsiung City Government’s Department of Health said the fisherman stayed in the city for about 24 hours, with three close contacts and 11 other contacts, all of whom returned a negative PRC test.

Penghu County Government said 19 passengers on the plane were identified as contacts and received PCR tests on Dec. 16, all of which were negative. They were immediately placed in quarantine.

The fisherman is currently in a quarantine ward and received a second PCR test, with a CT value of 41, indicating a lower viral load, according to Penghu County Government.
