Taiwan reported 15,094 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday and 55 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The 14,795 domestic cases represented a decline of about 17.8 percent from a week earlier, according to CECC data.
The CECC said the deceased ranged in age from their 30s to their 90s. All but two of them had underlying health conditions, while 28 were unvaccinated against COVID-19, it said.
Also on Saturday, the CECC reported 107 new COVID-19 cases classified as moderate and 51 as severe.
Regional breakdown
Regionally, New Taipei recorded the highest number of new cases, with 2,581, followed by Taichung with 1,815 and Taoyuan with 1,764.
Kaohsiung reported 1,761 cases, Tainan 1,362, Taipei 1,313, Changhua 720, Hsinchu County 471, Pingtung 408, Yunlin 363, Yilan 354, Miaoli 310, and Hsinchu City 304.
Nantou had 249 cases, Hualien 240, Keelung 235, Chiayi County 229, Chiayi City 125, Taitung 99, Kinmen 56, Penghu 30, and the Matsu Islands six.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 9,909,368 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 53,424 classified as imported.
With the 55 deaths reported Saturday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 17,452.
