CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 25,567 new COVID-19 cases, 67 deaths

Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported 25,567 new COVID-19 infections on Saturday, all but 44 of which were domestically transmitted, and 67 deaths from the disease.

The deceased ranged in age from their 50s to their 90s, and all but four had underlying health issues, while 33 were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.

Meanwhile, the CECC reported 123 new cases classified as moderate and 58 as severe.

Regionally, New Taipei City reported the highest number of new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, with 4,176, followed by Kaohsiung with 3,478, and Taichung with 3,470.

Taoyuan reported 2,574 new cases, Tainan 2,433, Taipei 2,273, Changhua 1,207, Pingtung 911, Hsinchu County 632, Yunlin 600, Hsinchu City 596, Chiayi County 528, and Miaoli 504.

Nantou had 496 cases, Chiayi City 353, Yilan 331, Keelung 302, Hualien 291, Taitung 192, Kinmen 97, Penghu 65 and the Matsu Islands 14 cases, the CECC said.

Since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, Taiwan has recorded 7,863,193 COVID-19 infections, including 7,826,526 domestic cases.

With the 67 deaths reported on Saturday, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Taiwan rose to 13,151, according to the CECC.
