CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 29,977 new COVID-19 cases, 81 deaths

Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported 29,977 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, all but 55 domestically transmitted, and 81 deaths from the disease.

 

The deceased ranged in age from their 40s to their 90s. All but two had underlying health issues, and 37 had not received any doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, the CECC said.

 

Meanwhile, the CECC reported 137 new cases classified as moderate and 83 as severe, including two new severe cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) involving a 1-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy.

 

The 10-year-old boy was discharged from hospital on Oct. 30 after his condition improved, while the girl is still in intensive care, CECC’s Medical Response Division Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said.

 

Regional breakdown

Regionally, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases Thursday, with 5,084, followed by Taichung with 4,005 and Kaohsiung with 3,970.

 

Taoyuan reported 3,016 new cases, Taipei 2,764, Tainan 2,749, Changhua 1,427, Pingtung 1,025, Hsinchu County 717, Hsinchu City 716, Miaoli 697, Yunlin 624 and Chiayi County 605.

 

Nantou had 519 cases, Keelung 446, Yilan 445, Hualien 374, Chiayi City 358, Taitung 194, Kinmen 94, Penghu 89 and the Matsu Islands four cases, the CECC said.

 

Taiwan has recorded 7,810,077 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, including 7,773,490 domestic cases.

 

With 81 deaths reported on Thursday, the number of COVID-19 deaths in Taiwan now stands at 13,010, according to the CECC.
