CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 575 new COVID-19 cases, including 431 domestic

Taiwan reported 575 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday — 431 domestically transmitted, 144 that originated abroad — and no new deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

It is the 10th consecutive day new domestic cases have been over 100, and the second straight day with over 400 new domestic cases.

New Taipei had the highest number of new domestic cases with 143, followed by Taipei with 67 and Taoyuan with 45.

Pingtung County reported 31 cases, Keelung 28, Kaohsiung 26, Tainan 20, Yilan County 14, while 13 each were reported in Hsinchu and Hualien counties.

Taichung reported eight cases, Hsinchu City seven, Chiayi City six, Yunlin County three. Miaoli, Nantou, and Chiayi counties each recorded two cases, and one was reported in Taitung County.

Of the 3,546 domestic COVID-19 cases recorded nationwide from Jan. 1 to April 9, 14 were classified as moderate to severe infections, while the others were either mild or asymptomatic, according to the CECC.

Meanwhile, 144 new imported cases were recorded Sunday, with 83 being travelers who tested positive on arrival in Taiwan, the CECC said.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 27,410 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 18,579 domestically transmitted infections, according to CECC data.

With no deaths reported Sunday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 854, the data showed.
