Taipei-Taiwan on Thursday reported six new COVID-19 cases — one transmitted domestically and five contracted overseas — and five deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The sole domestic case was reported in New Taipei.

The new cases bring the total in Taiwan to 15,897, of which 14,324 are domestic infections reported since May 15, when the country first recorded more than 100 COVID-19 cases in a single day.

The five deaths reported Thursday were three men and two women, in their 60s to 80s, who passed away between Aug. 13 and Aug. 17.

To date, 826 people have died of COVID-19 in Taiwan, including 814 since May 15.
