More than 100 works of art by Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí will be shown at an exhibition in Taipei from Jan. 1, according to the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, which will host the event.

Co-organized by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation in Spain, which was set up by the late artist himself, the exhibition will display the 100 watercolors he painted according to the Divine Comedy, a poem by Italian writer Dante Alighieri about a journey through hell and purgatory, before reaching heaven, the memorial hall said in a statement Friday.

In addition to the 100 watercolors created between 1959 and 1963, another notable piece that will be shown in Taiwan for the first time is his 1979 oil painting “In Search of the Fourth Dimension,” which features the “melting watch” Dalí is known for, the memorial hall said.

“Destino,” a short animated film created under a collaboration between Dalí and the Walt Disney Company in the 1940s and released in 2003, will also be shown in the exhibition, according to the memorial hall.

Other artworks in the exhibition include his paintings from the 1920s, stage designs from the 1940s, and works in his later days before he passed away in 1989, according to the statement.

The exhibition will take visitors through the life of Dalí and the wide range of areas he worked in, such as architecture, sculpture, and theater, the memorial hall said.

Tickets are being sold at a discount through several ticketing services in Taiwan, including books.com.tw, 7-Eleven’s ibon, Family Mart’s FamiPort, udn, KKday, and the website of co-organizer Mediasphere Communications until Dec. 31.

The exhibition will run until April 13.
