Zunyi: Taiwanese gymnast Tang Chia-hung successfully defended his horizontal bar title at the 2026 Asian Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Zunyi, China, on Sunday. The 29-year-old Olympic bronze medalist achieved a difficulty score of 6.600 and an execution score of 8.900, leading to a total score of 15.500. This score allowed him to surpass China's Zhang Boheng and Japan's Fusuke Maeda, securing the gold medal once again.
According to Focus Taiwan, Tang executed a highly challenging routine with confidence and precision, which earned him the top score. Zhang Boheng, his closest competitor, finished with a difficulty score of 6.200 and an execution score of 8.800, totaling 15.000 points. Fusuke Maeda captured the bronze medal with 14.300 points, stemming from a difficulty score of 6.900 and an execution score of 7.400.
The championships in Guizhou Province, held from Friday to Sunday, included the individual all-around competition and apparatus qualification rounds. Taiwan's men's team, which included Tang, Lee Chih-kai, Hung Yuan-hsi, Chuang Chia-lung, and Shiao Yu-jan, scored a combined 238.762 points to finish fifth overall.
Olympic medalist Lee Chih-kai earned his first single-event medal at the Asian Championships by winning a bronze. Hung Yuan-hsi also secured a bronze medal in the men's parallel bars with a total score of 13.800, comprising a difficulty score of 5.700 and an execution score of 8.100.
The team's fifth-place finish guaranteed them a spot at the 2026 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in the Netherlands this October. Team coach Lin Yu-hsin expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, describing it as "almost perfect," as it ensured Taiwan's participation in the team competition at the upcoming World Championships.
