Guiyang: Olympic gold medalist Lin Yu-ting had to settle for silver at the 2026 World Boxing Cup stop in Guiyang, China, after losing to Kazakhstan's Viktoriya Grafeyeva in the women's 60-kilogram final Sunday.
According to Focus Taiwan, Lin Yu-ting, who had previously achieved Olympic glory, encountered a challenging match against Grafeyeva. Despite winning the opening round on all five judges' scorecards, Lin faced increased pressure from her opponent in the second round. The final round saw a pivotal moment when a hard hit to the head sent Lin to the canvas, leading to Grafeyeva's victory through a 3-2 split decision.
Lin's coach, Tseng Tzu-chiang, highlighted that Lin's recent move from the women's 57 kg (featherweight) division to the 60 kg (lightweight) division played a role in the outcome. Tseng noted that the heavier weight class tested Lin's stamina, and she seemed not to have fully recovered from her semifinal bout against Chinese former world champion Yang Chengyu on Saturday.
This match marked Lin's first appearance in a World Boxing Cup final since her transition to the 60 kg division. This transition followed her gold-medal triumph at the 2024 Paris Olympics. After a 19-month hiatus from international competition due to uncertainty over World Boxing's new sex-testing regulations, Lin returned to the ring earlier this year.
The Guiyang tournament was only Lin's second international event in her new weight class, following the Asian Boxing Championships in April, where she secured a bronze medal. The Guiyang round of the World Boxing Cup, held from June 15-21, featured 333 boxers from 44 countries and territories, as reported by the event organizers.
