Taipei:A Japanese parliamentary delegation, led by lawmaker Keiji Furuya, commenced a two-day visit to Taiwan on Friday, joining over 200 international guests for the country's 2026 National Day celebrations.
According to Focus Taiwan, the delegation includes 27 lawmakers and seven staff members, as confirmed by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). Other notable delegations attending the celebrations are led by King Mswati III of Eswatini and Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith from the U.S. state of Indiana.
King Mswati, representing Eswatini, Taiwan's sole diplomatic ally in Africa, arrived in Taiwan early Friday. In total, 228 foreign guests are anticipated at the National Day reception on Saturday evening at the Taipei Guest House. This number comprises 156 members of visiting delegations and 72 foreign officials stationed in Taiwan along with their spouses.
The celebrations are also expected to see over 4,000 overseas Taiwanese returning from 51 countries, including 85 individuals from Central and South America and 49 from Africa, as per the Overseas Community Affairs Council.
The 115th National Day of the Republic of China, Taiwan's official name, will feature a formal ceremony outside the Presidential Office starting at 10 a.m. President Lai Ching-te will deliver a National Day address. The event will include military flyovers, a helicopter rescue demonstration, and a parade with over 2,500 volunteers trained in disaster preparedness. The Air Force's Thunder Tiger aerobatics team will perform with five Brave Eagle advanced jet trainers, trailing colored smoke to conclude the ceremony.
Additionally, a National Day fireworks display is planned for that evening near the International Landmark in Taitung City.
