Taipei: Taiwanese pop queen Jolin Tsai won best Mandarin female singer at the 37th Golden Melody Awards on Saturday for her album "Pleasure," marking her second victory in the category.
According to Focus Taiwan, Tsai prevailed over fellow nominees, including award-winning singer Julia Peng, up-and-coming singers Hung Pei-yu and Erika Liu, rapper Hsien Ching, and Chinese singer Shan Yichun. While accepting the trophy, Tsai expressed feeling less nervous than her previous win, attributing it to the presence of outstanding musicians and her continuous aspirations for growth.
Tsai emphasized the significance of "Pleasure," describing it as the most important album of her career and expressing surprise at receiving such an honor. She conveyed her artistic philosophy, stating, "Even when there's a lot of noise along the way, I remind myself to treat it as my paintbrush and keep creating new landscapes." This award marked Tsai's return to the category with her first album since "Ugly Beauty" in 2018.
Previously, Tsai won best Mandarin female singer for "Dancing Diva" in 2007 and Album of the Year for "Ugly Beauty" in 2018. "Pleasure" centers on the theme of desire, exploring how people confront longing and inner needs while challenging conventional perceptions of desire as negative. Tsai adopts a mature perspective, addressing human vulnerability through a cohesive work that spans music and performance.
Tsai is one of the most decorated artists in Golden Melody Awards history, having received 21 nominations and won seven awards.
