Keelung: The National Museum of Marine Science and Technology (NMMST) in Keelung has announced plans to retire a popular eco-themed art installation that has captured the hearts of "Harry Potter" fans worldwide. The installation, featuring giant brooms, has become a cherished photo spot for enthusiasts of the magical series.
According to Focus Taiwan, the installation titled "A Good Blow of Brooms!" was crafted in 2016 by French artist Patrick Demazeau during a three-week residency. Initially designed to promote environmental consciousness, the broom sculptures unexpectedly resonated with "Potterheads" due to their resemblance to the iconic broomsticks from the "Harry Potter" series.
The NMMST revealed in a press release that only nine out of the original 19 brooms remain at the Eco Park, also known as Badouzi Chaojing Park. Over the years, the seaside location has taken its toll, with erosion and typhoon damage diminishing the installation. The scarcity of the specific bamboo required for repairs, combined with damage from Typhoon Podul, influenced the decision to retire the artwork.
Opting against further restoration, the NMMST plans to let the installation gradually blend back into the natural landscape. Visitors are encouraged to capture photographs with the remaining structures while they are still intact.
