KMT Lawmakers Claim Victory as Recall Vote Count Continues

Taipei: Opposition Kuomintang (KMT) lawmakers have declared they survived recall votes to remove them from office Saturday, although official results are still pending as the vote counting continues.

According to Focus Taiwan, preliminary results indicate that the recall campaigns against all seven KMT lawmakers have fallen short, even though final tallies from the Central Election Commission (CEC) are still pending.

As of 6:10 p.m., Taichung Legislators Yen Kuan-heng and Yang Chiung-ying, Hsinchu County Legislator Lin Szu-ming, Nantou County Legislator Ma Wen-chun, and New Taipei Legislator Lo Ming-tsai had all announced they had survived their respective recall votes.

Meanwhile, civic groups involved in the recall campaigns declared that the recall vote against Nantou County Legislator Yu Hao and Taichung Legislator Johnny Chiang had failed to pass.
